We Call It Snow
By Kevin Kopp ©Kevin Kopp

I call it snow. You call it snow. Everyone I know just calls it snow.
I call it snow. You call it snow. Everyone we know just calls it snow.

Up in the Arctic where the Inuit go.
They spend most of the year looking at snow.
So over the ages their elders and sages.
Needed lot of words to describe snow stages.

See snow can be falling or lying on the ground.
Can be light or heavy and star shaped or round.
The Inuit people are strong and they are tough.
They have lots of words to call that stuff.

Qanniqtuq, Aput, Apismajuq
Qanniqqa, Apijuq, Natiruviattuq
These are just some words, so now you can see.
Talking about what we call show is not easy.
